Sandgate Castle was built in 1539 by Henry VIII to defend the lower shore of Sandgate, as part of the second major coastal defence scheme to be implemented in Southern England. (The Roman Saxon shore forts were the first, the Martello Towers being the third.)

 

Sandgate is a pretty seaside village renowned for its antique shops.

Sandgate is situated on the doorstep to Europe having the Channel Tunnel just 10 minutes up the road where you and your car can be in Calais in just 35 minutes.

The railway station is just 10 minutes away by car where you can board the fast link and be in Central London in just 55 minutes.

If you wish to stay more local we are surrounded by the beautiful Kent countryside which is renowned as the Garden of England with many lovely quaint villages. As a base for a holiday you really could not wish for more.

Just 10 minute drive from Hythe, one of the five  Cinque Ports.

10 minutes by car will take you to Folkestone where you can enjoy a walk along the stunning Leas which was given to Folkestone by Lord Radnor.  Enjoy a cream tea in the famous Grand Hotel, or walk down to the harbour and indulge in fresh seafood.
